RE: Yellowstone Advice Please

Take one day and drive the Beartooth Hwy over to Red Lodge and back.
Yes, do not miss taking the Beartooth Highway! Over ten years ago, leaving Yellowstone, I took one of my most favorite photos from that highway. We rounded a corner and looked back to see the bear's tooth on the horizon, undulating hills of snow and grasses, and in the foreground a small herd of mountain goats munching away. It is a spectactular picture of a spectactular place and still hangs on a wall in our home. It transports me back to that day even now. You will not be disappointed.

RE: electrical box trouble

We only have 3 ceiling lights in this little camper. Everything works on the shore power (a/c, outlets, water pump) except those three ceiling lights. It appeared that none of the fuses were blown, but will be checking them again tomorrow to be sure. We have not heard any more popping nor smelled anything hot today while checking the converter out off and on today. Even plugged in a quartz heater and nothing happened. Tomorrow will have an electrician look at it while getting new tires on the truck.

RE: Question for Palomino camper owners about lights

The fuses look okay. The lights all work when on battery power, just not on shore power.

Question for Palomino camper owners about lights

We had occasion to try to turn on our 3 ceiling lights today without having the truck deep cell battery plugged in. We were on shore power only and the lights did not come on. Everything else - outlets, a/c, fridge, etc. worked.
Do your lights operate on shore power alone?

RE: electrical box trouble

Just noticed: The 3 (truck camper) lights do not come on with just the shore power. They only work when the camper is plugged into the truck battery. Haven't had this camper very long and we can't remember if we've ever tried the lights without being plugged into the truck. Should they work with just shore power only?

RE: electrical box trouble

You need to look IN the box, not just behind the cover.Popping sounds indicate arcing, and yes it can get hot enough to cause a fire.. It will be obvious where the problem is, and it doesn't matter if it's AC or DC, it needs to be fixed..
Today's update: He did look inside the box and really found nothing. All the wires are good and everything is connected. He made sure the fan is free. Today we have heard no popping (arcing) and there is no hot smell. He had it on, sitting in the camper, for an hour or more with the a/c, fridge, fan on and all was working and silent. When the popping occurred yesterday, there was only the a/c and a fan running, so it couldn't have been overloaded (in any case, a warning will sound if this happens.) It is hooked up to the garage outlet which has been used for all the campers in our past and present (5th wheel, Class C, another TC) without incident while operating the a/c and fridge, etc. in those campers.
Trying to think of anything that was unusual yesterday, he wondered if he didn't have a solid connection where the cord plugs into the receptacle on the outside of the camper. Wondering if that could have caused the incident.
He plans to have an electrical service company look at it tomorrow and see if they have any ideas or can test it somehow. This is all very strange.

RE: electrical box trouble

Thank you for your replies - my husband plans to check these out today. (He's not a worrier, but I am: is there any fire danger with this box? The hot smell and popping are pretty scary to me!) Thanks.

electrical box trouble

Working in the truck camper this afternoon with the A/C and a fan on when the electrical box started making popping noises and was smelling hot. We unplugged the electric cord and checked behind the cover and can't see anything wrong; however, plugged it in again and it sparked once and started smelling hot again. Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

RE: Do Canadian gas stations take Discover credit cards?

I had called Discover last week and was told there would be no added % charges, but our Visa will add a %. Wondering if our Shazam debit card could be used or maybe should just bring a lot of cash. A lot of cash!

RE: Canadian border with popup truck camper

Regarding my original question: we are trying to get an idea of how much time it's going to take to pass through customs (and were hoping to find that we
With us it's taken as little as 30 seconds and as much as about 10 minutes depending upon the agent.
From a 'wait-in-line' perspective here are some of the times across the country; this list is updated regularly throughout each day.

Thank you so much! We are crossing at Sweet Grass and looks good today. Are you a back-packer or a Green Bay Packer-Backer? :W

Do Canadian gas stations take Discover credit cards?

We'd like to use our Discover card for gas in Canada because it does not have an extra fee added. Do they take Discover there?

RE: Canadian border with popup truck camper

Regarding my original question: we are trying to get an idea of how much time it's going to take to pass through customs (and were hoping to find that we probably won't have to take the time to raise the top of the camper.) We won't be bringing anything illegal into Canada, will not have fresh food and our pills will be in the RX bottles. Appreciating all advice to help us have everything in order to get on the road to see the beautiful Rockies as we pass through to Alaska. Thanks!

Just found this recall! I cannot open this link. Says it's been moved. Where can I find the list of recalls? We are scheduled to leave for Alaska on July 28! Thank you.

RE: Sign post forest in Watson Lake, YT

Can you bring any kind of sign you want to? Do they have rules at all about the construction, etc. of the sign? Do you have to "check in" and get help to put it up?

RE: Crossing the Border

All meds in original RX bottles.
My husband and I both put all our meds into compartment containers (mine goes a whole month; husband two weeks.) Can we not take them this way across the border? He takes some in the morning and some in the evening and needs to keep them separated in compartments. It will be very inconvenient to have them back in their RX bottles while traveling in Canada.
